BASIC TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

Before you dive in, here are a few simple tips to help you get started and make the most of every page.

Use the Bleed Sheet

Always use a bleed sheet underneath the page you are coloring. I’ve included a bleed sheet in the beginning section of the book. Cut it out and slip it behind the page you’re coloring. This will help stop colors from bleeding through and messing up the next masterpiece! Even heavy crayon coloring or gel pens can press through the paper. If the bleed sheet gets too messy, you can use some cardstock or even an old folder instead of the provided sheet. And, if you are using a very wet medium like markers, brush pens or water-based ink, you might want to use two sheets or card stock.

TIP: Once you have finished with that messy bleed sheet, cut out the interesting parts foryour nextcollage!

Test Your Colors and Tools First

Before you dive in, use the test page provided or one of the other intro pages so you know how your color or tool reacts to the paper. Wet medium, especially markers or water-based ink can bleed alot!

There’s No Wrong Way in Coloring

There are no rules here, just enjoy yourself. No need to obsess about colors, just pick two or three favorites or keep it monochromatic. Color outside the lines, or use different tools on the same page, color your cats pink oryour flowers polka-dots, or try adding your very own textures and patterns. Just go for it!

Flip for a Fresh View

Sometimes I turn my book upside-down to help spot areas I missed or to give me fresh ideas. Try it!

Show It Off!

When you’re done, carefully tear out your favorite pages and display them proudly – on the fridge, in a frame, or gifted to someone special.
